The Four Kingdoms in Nebuchadnezzar's and Daniel's Dreams

Nebuchadnezzar's Dream

Nebuchadnezzar had a dream (Dan. 2). He saw an awesome (a great) image. But Nebuchadnezzar had forgotten the dream. One of the wise men of Babylon whose name was Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar his forgotten dream and the interpretation of it. The head of this image was of gold and it represented the Babylonian Empire, the first kingdom of this prophecy. The next kingdom destroyed Babylon. This second kingdom represented by the two arms of the image was made of silver. It was a dual empire, Media and Persia. Then we have the belly of brass, the third kingdom, which happens to be the Greek Empire, Greece. The Bible calls it Grecia. (See Dan. 8: 21, 10: 20.). After Greece fell apart four rulers took the kingdom, divided it four ways, and ruled it (Dan. 2: 32, 39, 7: 6: 8, 22). So Greece was divided into four kingdoms each having its own ruler. Then we have the legs of this image which represent the fourth kingdom of iron, the old Roman Empire.

Daniel's Dream

There were four great beasts which represent four kingdoms. The first beast or kingdom was seen/pictured as a lion representing Babylon (Dan. 7). The second one was like a bear representing Media Persia. The third kingdom in Daniel's dream was seen as a leopard that represented Greece. Then a fourth beast representing a fourth kingdom, unnamed, but we know it was Rome. It was said to have great iron teeth. It also devoured and broke in pieces everything in its path, stamping everything under its feet, which is another way of saying it destroyed every nation by force, by power and strength. That is what the Roman Empire did.

The Kingdom of Antichrist

In the book of Daniel chapters 2 and 7 the image had ten toes. Those 10 toes are 10 horns, 10 kings, 10 kingdoms or 10 nations which will also have ten Kings or rulers. In the seventeenth chapter of the book of Revelation we see those 10 horns/kingdoms united into one kingdom under the Antichrist. The Kings of the earth will give their kingdom to the beast/Antichrist. (See Rev. 16: 10, 19: 19.). So, those 10 nations will become one kingdom during the tribulation period. Ten of the nations/kingdoms already exist. They came out of the land that was once the Roman Empire. A few more nations will rise and be added. However, during the tribulation period the Antichrist will cause them to drop off, they will not be a part of that kingdom, the kingdom of Antichrist.

Do not try to make the fourth beast of Daniel's dream, the Antichrist and his kingdom, or anything else. That fourth beast in Daniel 7: 7 (7: 23) is the same as the fourth kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar's dream (Dan. 2: 33, 40), the Roman Empire.

Notice the sequence that is given concerning the four kingdoms. The first kingdom was Babylon (Dan. 2: 32, 38). The second was Media and Persia (Dan. 2: 32, 39). The third kingdom was Greece (Dan. 2: 32, 39). The fourth kingdom turns out to be the Roman Empire (Dan. 2: 40). Then the ten toes of the image that represent 10 kingdoms with their 10 kings or rulers will a rise in the end times (Dan. 41 - 44).

Now in Daniel 7 we start all over with the same dream but with different details. Instead of using animals to describe these prophecies Daniel talks about four beasts which happen to be four kingdoms. Daniel also gives additional information concerning the little horn, the Antichrist, and a whole lot more.

The first beast/kingdom is referring to Babylon. The second beast was Media Persia coming to power. It was a dual kingdom. The third beast was Greece. The fourth beast was Rome, the Roman Empire. Now Daniel is going give us additional details. Out of this fourth beast/kingdom (That would be the land that the Romans once occupied.) will come 10 horns in the end times. (The 10 toes, 10 horns, 10 kings also represent kings or rules.). After those 10 horns/kings a rise, who are ruling the 10 kingdoms out of the old Roman Empire in the latter days, a little horn will come forth (Dan. 7: 7 - 8, 21, 24 - 25). This is the Antichrist. He will come out of one of those 10 nations at the start of the tribulation period. The little horn in Daniel 7: 8, 20 - 21, 24 - 25 is the Antichrist. (See Rev. 17: 11, 12 - 13, 14, 16 - 17, 19: 19 - 20.).

Just because Daniel does not mention the little horn in chapter 2 does not give one the right to think that Daniel 7: 7 and 8 are referring to the Antichrist and his kingdom. That fourth beast is Rome, the Roman Empire. And out of it will a rise 10 countries/kingdoms with 10 kings/rulers. The Antichrist will come out of one of those 10 countries. He is probably alive today. Look for Jesus to come in the Rapture. Do not be looking for the Antichrist for this is the wrong thing to do. The Antichrist will be revealed when the first seal is opened. So keep your eyes on the Lord and look for Him to return in the Rapture first.
