Noah's and Abraham's Birth Years After Creation

To understand why I use the number 502 which refers to Noah's age at the time of Shem's birth instead of using the 500 that Genesis 5: 32 mentions, I will have to start with Ar-phax-ad's birth date/year. The Bible tells us that Shem's son, Arphaxad, was born two years after the flood (Gen. 11: 10). Not only that, but we know from accurate calculation of previous ages and life spans of each person which are given in Genesis 5 and 11 along with a few other verses in various chapters, we can determine that the flood took place 1656 years after creation. Because we know the year of the flood, this gives us the ability to calculate other important dates using Scripture which gives us key information. So, let's start with Arphaxad's birth year, 1658.

1658 YAC (Years After Creation) - Aprhaxad's birth year.
- 100 The age of Shem when Arphaxad was born (Gen. 11: 10).
1558 YAC - Shem's birth year.
- 502 The age of Noah when Shem was born (Gen. 11: 32).
1056 YAC - Noah's birth year.

The Bible tells us that Noah was 500 years old when Shem, Ham, and Japheth were born. Shem was not the first son. He was the second one. The Scripture tells us that Noah was 600 (502 + 98 = 600) years old when the flood came upon the earth (Gen. 9: 29). It also says that Noah lived 350 years after the flood (Gen. 9: 28). Noah lived 448 years after Shem was born (98 + 350 = 448 years). Shem was born 98 years before the flood. To use 500 for Noah's age when Shem was born will not allow Arphaxad's birth year to come out to two years after the flood as the Bible tells us (Gen. 11: 10). So we have to use 502 to be correct (502 + 448 = 950 years). Shem was named first. Genesis 5 and 11 gives a lineage, which, if it continued, would lead to Christ. Ham was the youngest son (Gen. 9: 24) and Japheth the elder (oldest) (Gen. 10: 21).

1056 YAC - Noah's birth year.
+502 The age of Noah at the time of Shem's birth (Gen. 11: 32).
1558 YAC - Shem's birth year.
+100 The age of Shem when Arphaxad was born (Gen. 11: 10).
1658 YAC - Arphaxad's birth year.

1056 + 502 + 98 = 1656 YAC (Years After Creation) which equals the year of the flood. Add two years for Arphaxad's birth year, 1658. He was born two years after the flood. Note that Shem was born 98 years before the flood.

Now, the Bible tells us how Terah was 70 years old (Gen. 11: 26) and begat 3 sons. Abram (Abraham) was one of those sons but, once again, he is the second son of Terah.

To understand why I use the number 130 which refers to Terah's age at the time of Abram's (Abraham's) birth, instead of using the 70 that Genesis 11: 26 mentions, I will have to start with Genesis 12: 4 and Acts 7: 4. Terah and his family departed from Ur of the Chaldaeans/Chaldees and came to Charan/Haran (Gen. 11: 31) and lived there. When Terah died in Haran (Gen. 11: 32, Acts 7: 4), Abraham continued his journey toward the land of Canaan. After Terah had died and was buried, Abraham departed for Canaan at the age of 75. So, once again, with accurate calculation of previous ages and life spans of each person it allows us to calculate dates/years referred to in Genesis 5 and 11 to be accurate. Let's start with Terah's death year of 2083 YAC (Years After Creation).

2083 YAC - Terah's death year.
-  75 The age Abraham was when his father, Terah, died and Abraham departed for Canaan.
2008 YAC - Abraham's birth year.
+100 The age Abraham was when Isaac was born.
2108 YAC - Isaac's birth year.

The Bible tells us how long each father lived after his son was born, and the number of years that that father lived, as well.

(See Genesis 5: 32, 6: 3, 10, 7: 6, 11, 9: 18, 22, 24, 28 - 29, 10: 1, 21, 11: 10, 26, 31 - 32, 12: 1 - 4, Acts 7: 2 - 4.).

  1. Noah lived 502 + 98 + 350 = 950 years (Gen. 9: 28 - 29).
  2. Shem lived to see 10 generations of his descendants (Arphaxad - Isaac).
  3. Abraham died 25 years after Shem did.
  4. Isaac was 50 years old when Shem died.
  5. Jacob was born 10 years after Shem died.
  6. Abraham was born 2 years after Noah's death.

The number of years that each person's lifespan overlapped.
